How to use the Windrose trade goods calculator

Last updated: July 30, 2026.

Windrose is a pirate survival game where Trade Goods can pay different amounts depending on the faction Buyer. Use this calculator when your cargo hold contains goods and you need to decide where it is worth sailing before you sell.

Choose the trade good in your cargo hold and the faction Buyer you plan to visit. The calculator fills the preferred-buyer reference payout, but you can replace it with the exact offer shown in your current game.

Enter the number of crates, then optionally add:

  • acquisition cost per unit, or leave it blank for looted cargo;
  • repair, ammunition, supply, or other voyage costs;
  • travel time if you want to compare net Piastre per hour.

You can add or duplicate up to three cargo runs. Sort the comparison by net Piastre per trip or by hourly return.

Windrose trade good buyers and reference payouts

The presets use the dedicated faction Buyer payout, not the price charged by a Trade Goods Merchant. Public buyer tables checked on July 28, 2026 list:

These values are supported by the buyer tables in PC Gamer's Windrose faction guide, the item records in Windrose DB, and the sell list in Mobalytics' Windrose selling guide. Windrose is actively developed, so the calculator keeps every payout editable.

Some pages mix up a merchant's price for selling a crate to the player with the amount a faction Buyer pays to the player. This distinction matters for Munitions and Spirits in particular. When sources disagree, use the offer displayed in your game.

Windrose cargo run formulas

The calculator uses the following formulas:

  • Buyer payout = buyer payout per unit × quantity
  • Preferred-buyer payout = reference payout per unit × quantity
  • Missed payout = maximum of preferred-buyer payout − selected buyer payout, or zero
  • Acquisition cost = acquisition cost per unit × quantity
  • Total cost = acquisition cost + voyage costs
  • Net Piastre = buyer payout − total cost
  • Net per unit = net Piastre ÷ quantity
  • ROI = net Piastre ÷ total cost × 100%
  • Net Piastre per hour = net Piastre ÷ travel minutes × 60
  • Break-even payout per unit = acquisition cost per unit + voyage costs ÷ quantity

ROI is left blank when total cost is zero. Hourly return is left blank when travel time is empty or zero.

Example: a looted Contraband run

Suppose you loot three Contraband crates and take them to the Smugglers of Port Royal. At the 150 Piastre reference payout, the cargo returns 450 Piastre. If repairs and ammunition cost 30 Piastre, the run nets 420 Piastre.

If the trip takes 15 minutes, its estimated hourly return is 1,680 Piastre. Acquisition cost stays at zero because the crates were looted.

If another buyer offers only 100 Piastre per crate, enter 100 as the buyer payout. The calculator shows a 150 Piastre missed payout across the three crates, before considering voyage costs.

Choosing the best Windrose cargo run

The largest payout is not always the best use of a play session. A shorter route can produce less Piastre per trip but more per hour. Compare both rankings and account for loading time, combat risk, cargo capacity, and the supplies you actually consume.

Faction bases are placed differently between saves, so a universal map route or fixed travel time would be misleading. Measure a typical trip in your own world and reuse the saved route in your browser.

Privacy and unofficial status

Your cargo run names, prices, quantities, times, and costs are processed locally in your browser. CalculatorStore does not upload these inputs to a server. Use Reset to remove the saved browser copy.

This is an unofficial fan-made calculator. It is not affiliated with Windrose, the game's developer or publisher, Steam, or Valve. Results are estimates based on the values you enter.

FAQ

Who should I sell Trade Goods to in Windrose?

Each preset lists the faction Buyer associated with that Trade Good. Select a different buyer only when you want to evaluate another in-game offer, then replace the payout with the exact amount that buyer shows.

Can I calculate profit for looted cargo?

Yes. Leave acquisition cost blank or enter zero, then add only the repair, ammunition, supply, or other costs you want included.

Why are Munitions and Spirits lower than some online tables?

Some tables show Trade Goods Merchant purchase prices rather than the amount the Rogue Buccaneers Buyer pays the player. The calculator uses the dedicated Buyer payouts found in multiple selling guides, but the field remains editable in case the game changes.

How is missed payout calculated?

The calculator compares the payout you entered with the preset preferred-buyer reference. If your entered payout is lower, the difference per unit is multiplied by the quantity. Custom items have no built-in reference.

How do I calculate Piastre per hour?

Subtract acquisition and voyage costs from the total buyer payout, divide the result by travel minutes, then multiply by 60. Travel time must be greater than zero.

Does the calculator use live Windrose prices?

No. Presets are versioned reference values, not a live feed. Always use the editable payout field when your current game shows a different amount.
