Convert exported WhatsApp chats to Excel
Use this tool when you already have an exported WhatsApp chat .txt file and need a clean spreadsheet for review, archiving, reporting, or group analysis. The converter reads the chat text in your browser, detects message timestamps, senders, system messages, and media placeholders, then exports a spreadsheet you can open in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or any CSV reader.
The first version focuses on exported text chats because that is the safest and most reliable input. It does not connect to WhatsApp Web, read your phone backup, or upload private conversations to a server.
What the converter extracts
- Date and time
- Sender name
- Message text
- System messages
- Media omitted markers
- Basic group chat counts
- Optional anonymized sender labels
Multi-line messages are kept together, so long replies, copied notes, and pasted links do not become separate rows.
How to export a WhatsApp chat
- Open the chat in WhatsApp.
- Open the chat info or menu.
- Choose the export chat option.
- Export without media for the fastest and cleanest
.txtfile. - Upload or paste the exported
.txtcontent into this page.
If a chat has Advanced Chat Privacy enabled, WhatsApp may block chat export. In that case, this converter cannot access the conversation because it only works with files you export yourself.
Privacy
The conversion runs locally in your browser. Your chat text is not uploaded, stored, or sent to CalculatorStore. If you close the tab or clear the input, the content is removed from the page state.
For sensitive conversations, review the preview table before exporting and enable sender anonymization if you need a spreadsheet without real participant names.
Best practices
- Use exported
.txtchat files instead of screenshots for the most accurate result. - Export without media unless you only need a media count marker.
- Check the date format setting if the first and second numbers in your dates could be ambiguous.
- Use CSV for lightweight data workflows and XLSX when you want a spreadsheet file for Excel users.
